90+ Essential Social Media Resources

Now you’ve gone and done it. You’ve come across a list so enormous, so useful, and so awesome, our futile attempts to describe it have been lost in the tubes of cyberspace.

We’ll just say this: No matter what you’re into — Twitter (Twitter), Facebook (Facebook), Mobile Apps, Business Development, or good-old-fashioned YouTube (YouTube) hilarity — you will find it below.

So put down your barbeque, send out another huge thanks to our men and women in uniform, and limber up your scrolling finger — it’s a big one.

If you dig the uber-list, be sure to send some comments our way down below!

Mobile Web to Surpass Desktop Web by 2013

Mobile phones will overtake PCs as the most common Web access devices worldwide by 2013, according to a new forecast by research firm Gartner. That's an even more aggressive outlook than Morgan Stanley's projection that the mobile Web will outstrip the desktop Web in five years.

Gartner estimates the combined installed base of smartphones and browser-equipped enhanced phones will surpass 1.82 billion units by 2013, eclipsing the total of 1.78 billion PCs by then.

I've had an iPhone since Day One, and it soon became obvious how desperate smartphone manufacturers were to catch up. Apple set the mobile web growth momentum to such a pace that I'm not surprised at Gartner's forecast.

And I wouldn't be surprised if it happened even sooner. What do you think?

Red Cross Raises $800,000+ for Haiti Through Text Message Campaign

Susan Watson, director of marketing and visibility for the Red Cross, tells us that they’re getting reports every half hour with the latest donation numbers, and the current total — as of 4:30 p.m. EST — is greater than $800,000 for text message donations alone.

Wow. This is a great testament to the power of social media and mobile campaigns during a natural disaster crisis. Much can be learned from this for future disasters.
